Just thought I'd try a little experiment.
I am able to track how many page views I receive (between 550 and 700 per month). I also know that about 80 percent of the page views come from New Zealand and 20 percent from overseas and a large proportion come from people who link from the Challenge Wanaka home page. However, I have no idea how many people are actually reading my blog. I have 6 official "followers" and 10 people receive an email of each posting, plus I know of about 6-10 other people who read it (including my Mum - Hi Mum), but beyond that I have no idea where the other 500 plus page views come from (is it 50 people reading 10 pages or 500 people reading just one?).
I am really keen to know more about who my audience is. So, if you read this, I'd love for you to leave me a brief comment in the comments box below - even just a "Hi" would be great.
PS I am going to be getting back to the story of my accident over the coming weeks. I am now on sabbatical until April and I will have a more flexible timetable and will be in writing mode for work. Once I get into the groove with writing (academic or otherwise), the words will just flow. So I hope you are prepared for a lot more posts over the next 9 or 10 weeks.

Hey Richard,
greetings from Germany. I am following your blog via RSS updates. Keep up the great work and all the pieces will add up on race day!
Good luck for the weekend thingy!
Hi Andreas,
It's awesome to know that you are reading my blog regularly. Are you coming to NZ to do Challenge?
Thanks for your support.
Tschüs!
Rich
Hi Richard, I follow your blog from Christchurch! Came across it when I was looking for inspiration - I was training to complete my first ever Olympic distance triathlon. I check in every week or so to see how you're going. It's incredible that you've put so much effort into this, and you inspired me to continue training through the dark and cold winter, the pain, the boredom in the pool, and the self doubt. A couple of weeks ago I went to Noosa and finished my first ever Olympic triathlon :0). Keep up the good work, it's certainly been a journey, but you're well on track - and crossing that finish line is just fantastic!

Hey Richard,
AKA nut bag for jumping into the harbour last sunday, i was just getting home from my ride and about two mins before i saw you i was thinking, thank god i dont have to get in their today....then boom there the three of you were running along the banks giggling like little school boys it was awesome! sounds like you got some decent swimming done to!
Good stuff, hope training is going well how much nicer is it with more sunlight at night and warmer weather...i always feel a sense of acomplishment when the winter ends..like ive weathered the storm do you get that to?

Hi Melanie
Awesome effort on completing your first Olympic distance tri. I am stoked that my blog has been an inspiration to you. It really is motivating for me to know that I can help others.
Next step for you should be Challenge Wanaka 2012. It sounds like a lot of training (and it is), but it is so rewarding.
Good luck.
Rich
Hey Katie
We were giggling like little school boys weren't we! It was the same this morning, standing 50 metres off shore in knee deep water contemplating how much further we would ahve to go out before we didn't drag our hands along the bottom. I think we got the tide a little wrong!
It is great coming out the other side of winter. Running in the dark sucks! I guess that's a good incentive to finish Challenge before the sun goes down.
Rich
hi,
I'm French but living in NZ since 3 years,I have done my first tri here in 2009(triwoman serie) this year I entered the contact trophy serie.I discovered your blog on tri NZ and check out regularly since.I like the way you relate your story and your trainings It's not boring like other blogs with only training description and a lot of numbers.I had a back injury 20 years ago ( which luckily only left me with a weaker left leg ) so your story is also what keeps me going when training is tough.
Patricia
Hi Patricia
Thanks for your comment. The feedback is great. I presume that it was you that commented the other day?
I hope that you have a successful tri season this summer. Are you doing the Contact race in Wanaka just before Challenge?
Rich
Hi Richard,
Challenge Wanaka is definitely on my todo list, but not in the near future. Currently I am looking forward to the Inferno race in Switzerland: http://www.inferno.ch/?langId=2
One day I'll come back to NZ and especially Wanaka. It's an amazing race placed in a spectacular scenery. Just watching it in 2009 lured me back to all this endurance stuff :) Just loving it!
Go for it in Ashburton! Looking forward to a new blog entry.
